Our family came to Hideaway for the schools, the community, and the life we had always dreamed of having. About two and a half years later, we are asking our neighbors and our city for help finding answers about the HOA’s treatment of our family.
What began with a $500 fine tied to an Uber Eats delivery driver has grown into far more than we ever expected. As we tried to understand how that fine was issued and why it was placed on our account, we began uncovering broader questions involving HOA security authority, the appeal process, financial transparency, access to association records, contracts, property transactions, suspensions, Board decisions, closed meetings, privacy, and how members are informed about decisions affecting their community.
The more questions we asked, the more we realized that what happened to our family may be part of a much larger conversation about transparency, accountability, and how our HOA is being managed.
Because so much has happened, we have created a timeline of events, showing what happened, when it happened, and the records we have collected along the way. We encourage anyone who wants to understand the full story to review the timeline and look at the documents for themselves.
These issues have come at a personal cost. The financial strain, statements we felt were threats, and being followed by guards have made us concerned for our family’s safety. We should be able to step outside our home without worrying about further retaliation.
People have told us over and over again, “This is not Hideaway at its best.”
We came here with hope, and we still want the life and sense of belonging that brought us here. We never wanted this fight. But we stand up for what we believe in, even when doing so is difficult.
We have three children watching us. They are learning how we treat others and how we respond when something feels wrong. We want to teach them to stand up for what is right and expect fair treatment. We wish that lesson did not place such a burden on our family, but here we are.
We feel we have been repeatedly targeted and retaliated against for asking questions and asking the HOA to follow its own rules and bylaws, as well as state and federal laws. It has left us worried about what might happen each time we speak up.
No family or person should have to choose between staying silent and feeling safe in their own community.
We are asking the community to review the timeline, rules, and public records, ask questions, and help hold those responsible accountable. We do not want another family to endure what we have experienced.
If you have faced similar problems or know something that could help us find answers, please contact us. You do not have to speak publicly. If you fear retaliation, you can contact us privately. We understand how hard it is to speak up when you worry about being targeted or retaliated against.
We want to raise our children here, enjoy our neighbors, and feel that we belong. Every family in Hideaway deserves to feel welcome, to be heard, and to feel safe in the place we all call home.
